CMUPS is a complete Client Management and user Portal System which handles all your user sign ups and registration, payment handling, reminders, subscription cancellations and reporting, leaving you to get on with building your mesh.

Frequently Asked Questions

>How is the number of licenses determined?

The license is on a per realm basis. Each CMUPS service will support the management of a single Wiana Realm. We can update multiple realms simultanteously (say to allowing roaming), but that will require some minor coding on our part and we'd charge a nominal fee to set each one up.
STOP PRESS! CMUPS now supports updating up to 3 realms, either simulteneously or based on the subscription type. CMUPS users to one or more realms in the same Wiana account - this new feature makes CMUPS even more powerful and flexible.

>How do you setup subscribers?

MeshAP captures the user as normal and they are asked to follow a link either your website or the the CMUPS SignUp page directly. Each new client is prompted for their details and they get an account and an initial subscription package. They can add subscription packages to that account. You don't need to lift a finger.

>How do you setup for One Day users?

With CMUPS Portal+ and Professional, you can define as many of your own subscription packages as you like. So you can have 1 day, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, whatever. You can also make 1 subscription dependant on having another - useful for a startup package including installation charges then folowed by monthly fees. In the Community Package, we'll ask you to define 2 subscription packages and we'll pre-program them for you. We'll allow you to make changes for the first 3 months without charge.

>How many mirror sites do you have?

We are currently setting these up. Currently our host are RAID based servers, in a data centre in London, UK. In addition to the backups performed by our hosts, we backup our databases ourselves automatically every day and copy them to a server in Utah, US.

>How long is the transaction time?

This depends on the payment system you hook up with. CMUPS adds your users to the Wiana Realm as soon as payment is confirmed by PayPal, Nochex, Worldpay etc.

>Which Currencies does CMUPS support?

Any currency you like, ... errr... except beads and shells :-). You can accept more than one currency, for example, GBP and Euro.

>Do you have the my country's Tax setup?

Yes, CMUPS handles national and local taxes. You can define your tax amounts as required. If you need to show your Tax Registration number on CMUPS invoices or on every CMUPS page then that's no problems either. CMUPS already runs in several different tax areas around the world.

>What credit cards can be used?

Again, it depends on your online payment handling system.

>When I run out of credits how do I buy more?

For CMUPS Community & CMUPS Portal+ you can buy them in our online shop http://www.feeedpro.co.uk/shop You pre-buy bundles of "CMUPS signup credits", which are then added to your account. The Professional Package has unlimited credits included. Refer to the table below to see how long your credits might last.

>How easy is it to setup?

The initial setup is done by us. We'll consult with you on what you need and try to meet your requirements. The Community version is fixed once we've set it up, i.e. you can't change anything yourself, you need to ask us. We'll do our best to tweak things, especially when you're getting started. Portal+ and Professional users have access to the Admin Control Panel. You just need to define your 'products' ie. Your subscription packages and off you go. We will help you that and with a Portal Website if you require it, or you can link to CMUPS from you own website. In all cases we need your Wiana account and realm details (Community user need to reveal their password to us, but Portal+/Professional users can enter that themselves), plus you need to set up the Walled Garden in Wiana and put a link on your splash page to CMUPS or the portal.

>MeshAP's Walled Garden only suports IP addresses, not URLs. Is that a problem?

Generally no. We know of some payment handlers who switch between several servers but you can define IP ranges in the walled garden to handle that. For the most awkward URLs, CMUPS includes a monitoring service which allows you to define a list of URLs to monitor; CMUPS will email you (or SMS you, see below) when it detects a change, so you can check your Walled Garden.

>Does CMUPS integrate with my website?

Yes. We give you a set of links you can place on your website to enable users to signup quickly, or for existing users to check their details. We will also tailor every CMUPS page which the user sees so that it has a similar look and feel to your website (where possible). You can use the simple links, or an 'iframe' for that fully integrated look. You can pass many parameters to CMUPS to control things like branding, form pre-filling, the list of available subscriptions, or payment system selection.

>If I start with the Community Package, can I upgrade later?

Yes, no problem. Just pay the difference in price. So if you pay £89 for the Community Package and then upgrade to CMUPS Professional the upgrade will be just:

>Are we locked to using your system for payments?

No. CMUPS is payment system independent. You choose the online payment handler you prefer.

>How long before we get paid?

Well as none of your subscription payments come through Feeed Pro, it depends on the payment system you select. Feeed Pro and CMUPS do not see credit/debit card details at all, and all transactions are between you, your client, your payment handler and your merchant account.

>How is the revenue collected/paid?

All your subscription payments go through the payment system(s) you choose. The transactions are between you and your wireless client. At no time do Feeed Pro see any of your revenue. This means there are no delays in payout (depending on the payment system you use).

>Can we host on our own Servers?

Sorry, currently no. The reason is that we provide ongoing support for CMUPS and we feel we can give better service if we are in full control of the installation. It is possible that we will provide an installation service on other servers at an extra cost in the future.

>Can we still add users in Wiana?

Yes, the Wiana Realm manager functions as normal. You can still add and manage your users. The CMUPS Portal+ and Professional versions allow you to manually add and manage users from within CMUPS.

>Do tickets still work?

Yes, Tickets and the TICKETED Realm still work. In fact, you can combine CMUPS with a TICKETED Realm to provide short term (30minutes to 16 hours) access. It can even be combined with CMUPS Professional's discount Coupon feature for a hotspot-like service. CMUPS is very flexible - we've recently set up a "30 mins free per day, every day, for every user" system for a client in North America.

>Can I charge users for installation or equipment via CMUPS?

Yes. With the Portal+ and Professional version you can define whatever 'product' you like. You can even require that the user has purchased the installation prior to allowing them to purchase further subscriptions.

>Can CMUPS be used in a hotel or cafe style hotspot scenario?

Yes, CMUPS is being used in a number of MeshAP based hotspot locations. For example, one hotel offers free access to guests by giving them 'coupons' when they check-in. Day visitors can buy subscriptions wirelessly online as normal.

>Can CMUPS print Coupons for us?

Yes, CMUPS Professional supports Discount Coupons. You can define these to work only with certain subscription packages, and you can define the percentage discount from 1% to 100%. You can even make them valid for a defined period e.g. use by 31st January 2006. CMUPS professional can print batches of coupon numbers or you can use the new 'One-Click' Coupon Generator.

>What about Scratch Cards?

Feeed Pro are currently investigating a custom Scratch Card Printing Service. This will aim to provide affordable uniquely numbered scratch cards for you to sell or give out to clients. They will work in conjunction with CMUPS Professional's Coupon system. We hope to support batches as low as 50 cards at a time.

>Can I force users to agree to our Terms and Conditions?

Yes, all versions of CMUPS support this, just send us a copy and we'll add them into the process. Users are then forced to agree before they can purchase any subscriptiion.

>Does CMUPS support different foreign languages?

We can provide a low cost in-house translation service for French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch/Flemish, please email us info@cmups.net for a quotation.

>Can we disconnect users if we need to?

Yes. Users whose subscriptions expire are removed from the Wiana Realm automatically but if you want to remove a user manually (say for breach of AUP or T&C's) you can using the Portal+ or Professional version. CMUPS Community version users can edit the Wiana Realm manually as normal.

>Can we send email announcements to all members?

Yes, with the CMUPS Professional. You can choose to email all users or different categories, e.g. only expired users; users with a certain subscription package. You can include attachments, HTML and even personalise each email with mail merge tags for name, or login details for example.

>Is CMUPS compatible with MeshAP Pro?

Yes, CMUPS works with both MeshAP and MeshAP Pro. For best results, MeshAP build25dev88 or better is required.

>What features of CMUPS can I customise?

There are many features which you can customise. Every email sent by CMUPS can have your own wording. All CMUPS pages can have your own dedicated Header and Footer. You can choose where you want admin related alerts, notifications and emails sent.

>Can CMUPS work with our Radius Server?

Currently no. But we will be developing a Radius Plug-in soon. We expect it to be available mid 2005.

>Is CMUPS compatible with Qorvus QNodes?

Yes. If you still use Wiana for your authentication.

>What support does CMUPS have for MAC Address authentication?

CMUPS fully supports Wiana's "MAC Only", "MAC address or password" and "MAC+username+password" authentication. Soon CMUPS will support automatic MAC address capture with MeshAP Pro Meshboxes and QNodes, eliminating the need for users to hunt for theire MAC address. You can set the maximum number of MAC addresses per subscription, and if required, allow users to edit their MAC address list themselves. Administrators can amend MAC addresses from within CMUPS, without having to go to Wiana.

>Can I have different signup pages for different nodes?

CMUPS allows you to pass it options from the splash page, so yes. A forthcoming release of MeshAP Pro will allow you to automatically determine which node the user is connecting too, and using this, CMUPS will allow you to display different signup options depending on the node.

>Can we have more than one Administrator

CMUPS Portal+ and Professional have enhanced Administrator Login support, allowing you to have several Administrators each with different privileges.

>Does CMUPS support SMS (Text Message) Alerts?

Yes, CMUPS now supports Text Message alerts for both Admin and Customer. You tell CMUPS the admin's mobile phone number and also the details of your third party SMS Gateway (see www.kapow.co.uk for example). Additonally, you can ask new users to enter their mobile phone number and they will get a confirmation SMS sent to their phone. You will not pay Feeed Pro anything for this service - you pay your chosen SMS Gateway Provider. We are adding new gateways all the time, so if yours is not support yet, just ask us and we'll add it.

>What happens if things go wrong?

CMUPS generally emails the administrator whenever a user signups, or renews etc, or if it has problems. Additionally, many actions, such as the responses back from your payment system or Wiana are logged in the "Error/Debug Log" (available in CMUPS Professional). All this information will help us, to help you trace any problems.

>What other features will CMUPS have in the future?

In early 2005 we expect to provide Affiliate Scheme support, allowing you to reward webmasters for advertising your Mesh Network on their website.

Admin Initiated Only New Signups

- Option to prevent users from subscribing on their own. Useful if your system requires you to manually create user accounts from the admin page. This feature was added for a client that wanted to create users accounts only ffor members of their association. No 'outsiders' were allowed.

US & European Wiana Mirror Support

CMUPS now allows you to select you local Wiana authenication server. CMUPS will attempt to update that server first. If that fails, CMUPS will automatically try the other server. Locustworld synchronises the servers automatically.

Improved Local Currency Support

CMUPS has always supported many local currrencies, but now it allows you to define local prices even if the payment processor you use doesn't directly support that currency.

Improved Regional Names Support

Now its easier to choose the State/County/Province lists for your country. Previously it required us to modify the code for you.

Require Payment by Coupon

For offline payment handling, you can issue coupons at the counter and force users to use coupons as proof of payment when signing up via CMUPS.
